She’s back, Brisbane! Alanna Sapwell, Queensland native and one of the most celebrated chefs in the country, is returning to home soil with her incredibly successful pop-up restaurant, Esmay. Esmay has been touring the country with Good Food Month for the past year, with every single event selling out in a flash. T
his will be Esmay’s fifth pop-up and what better place to have it than at Brisbane’s iconic pub, the 1864 grade edifice Alliance Hotel. We are also proud to announce that the Esmay pop-up marks the first time in the pub’s history that it has ever had a culinary takeover! What better way to make Alanna feel at home than coming together in a classic Aussie pub.
Alanna originally trained at Noosa’s The River House before working in kitchens of Italy and Japan. She then went to Sydney where she became Head Chef of hatted restaurant, Saint Peter (winner of The Good Food Guide’s New Restaurant of the Year, 2018). She broke Sydney’s heart by returning to Brisbane where she opened ARC Dining – scooping up one chef’s hat within her first year of trading. After that, Esmay was born, first popping up at the former Wasabi site, then travelling the country with Good Food Month.
Alanna explores the territory of where she lands in Australia, unearths what’s local and showcases the seasonal and regional treasures from nearby farms and waters. Her dishes not only reflect the landscape, but there’s an element of comfort cooking in everything she does. Alanna’s food is best enjoyed with family and friends- her style is informal, heart-warming yet innovative. So what better way to set the scene than a classic old pub experience – and no one does that better than The Alliance Hotel. With interiors of rustic wood and exposed brick, the space is warm, rich, and has a truly inviting atmosphere. It’s the perfect space to enjoy Esmay’s delicious and heartening cuisine.
Join Alanna when Esmay takes over The Alliance Hotel for one day only with a lunch and dinner sitting, comprising of multiple courses with incredible wines for Brisbane Good Food Month. We anticipate this event will sell out quickly, so we encourage you to purchase your tickets quickly.
