Blast those winter blues with a big dose of tropical flavour from one of Australia’s most exciting new restaurants. This August, Noma alumnus Ben Devlin will be bringing the flavours and experiences of his restaurant Pipit from the Northern Rivers of New South Wales to cutting-edge Armadale restaurant Amaru.
“Pipit is in a lucky part of the world; its sub-tropical, fertile conditions deliver us a range of flavours that are unique,” says Devlin. “We’re aiming to bring down some tropical flavours to brighten up the Melbourne winter.”
Reviewing Pipit for Good Food, restaurant critic Terry Durack spoke of the thrilling quality, the deceptive simplicity and the thoughtfulness of Ben’s cooking, as well as his focus on lesser-seen produce: “This isn’t just a skilful chef opening a very appealing seaside restaurant; it’s a template, to build the future of Australian cuisine on our strengths.”
Ben will team up with Amaru’s Clinton McIver to present the Pipit experience in Clinton’s exquisite jewel-box of a Melbourne restaurant, promising an evening full of fresh ideas and no shortage of deliciousness. If you’re interested in ambitious cooking and the new direction of Australian restaurants, this is a night you won’t want to miss.
“I’ve always thought of Ben as a super-talented chef with boundless creativity and skill,” says Clinton. “I’ve been looking for an opportunity to cook with Ben again and I personally can’t wait.”
Tickets include canapes, seven-course tasting menu and petits fours, with matched wines chosen by Pipit’s sommelier and poured by the Amaru team.
