Winter Weekends has been happening for 15 years, starting with flagship events like the world famous Dachshund Dash. Now we brighten the cold months with a diverse and exciting mix of events, so you’ll see and feel this place in a new way. Festival events and activities fall under 4 main pillars:
A series of events and activities for everyone. Mostly free of charge and always great fun, these events are designed to get people up and outside even on the darkest, wettest days! With thanks to all the wonderful, dedicated volunteers who nurture this town with love.
The festival is an opportunity to showcase the incredible depth of artistic talent that exists here. Whether your interest is in performance, music, painting, design, photography, craft, sculpture, fashion, pottery, film or literature, you will uncover hidden gems as you meet the people behind the work.
South West Victoria is lucky to have a thriving live music scene. It might be the result of our strong indigenous heritage and Celtic influence, or perhaps the stunning landscapes and raw power of the ocean, or maybe it’s the strong festival scene. Whatever the reason, Winter Weekends is the perfect stage for emerging local talent and music lovers alike.
FOOD & WINE
Whether it’s chefs-hatted fine dining or a hipster pop-up, this festival has it all. Think fun and fresh market produce, warm night-time offerings, wine classes, high teas, cheese making, cooking workshops, film and food combined, mulled wine and hot chocolates (but of course!).
Lava flows, black basalt, enormous pine trees, Southern Ocean, East Beach, Griffiths Island, marshlands, riverside, parks, greens, paths, volcano craters. Wide open coastline and secret out-of-the-way bays. Bird life, marine life, wild life. And more, so much more. This is an ancient land with Aboriginal, colonial and contemporary stories to tell. Our pristine landscape can embrace you in a warm, comforting hold and reinvigorate you with a rush of wild. All under big skies that shine at dawn, glow at sunset and sparkle in the darkness of night.
