The Royal Darwin Show is at heart an agricultural show offering a unique blend of elements which focus on showcase, competition, education and entertainment. It is family oriented and provides a ‘value for money’ experience which caters for all ages and backgrounds. Just as importantly it brings us together once a year to celebrate our multicultural diversity, our great lifestyle and to simply enjoy each other’s company.
The pavilions are filled with craft, poultry, photography and horticulture to appreciate and learn about. You can also enjoy livestock both large and small including cats, dogs and cattle, poultry and baby animals. The main arena features a variety of horse events from dressage to show jumping together with some special entertainment including Holden versus Ford and traditional spear throwing. To top it off the feature attraction will be Tom Curtain – multiple Golden Guitar winner and horseman extraordinaire appearing each day in the main arena.
An exciting array of street attractions also feature at this year’s show; they include the Reptile House, The Dinkum Dinosaurs, El Jay Freestyle Entertainment, the Sandman Sculptor and our Chainsaw Sculpture. And especially for our 70th show Aviculture Hall will be bursting with a variety of beautiful birds both colourful and noisy.
Meanwhile a wide variety of exhibitors offer local foods, showbags, information and goods for sale. For the adventurous, Sideshow Alley awaits with its many rides and entertainment for all ages.
The show closes on Saturday night with a ‘fireworks to music’ spectacular – a long-held tradition.
